Did I Really Miss Fashion?

Bonjour fashion lovers,

after such a long time, I’m finally sitting down here with you again, ideally over a cappuccino, to do what Cappuccino Time has always meant to me: talking about fashion without necessarily talking about trends.

And over the past few days, I’ve found myself asking what seems like a very simple question: did I really miss fashion?

The answer is yes. But not all of it.

I didn’t miss knowing what the colour of the season was. I didn’t miss chasing yet another microtrend, probably destined to disappear before we even had the time to understand it. I didn’t miss the endless lists of “must haves”, aesthetics with a new name every week, or that feeling that we constantly need to want something new just to feel as though we are still part of the game.

I missed something else.

I missed seeing a woman crossing the street in a beautiful white shirt and immediately thinking: that is style.

I missed a coat worn with effortless nonchalance, a well loved bag, a pair of trousers with perfect proportions.

I missed seeing someone on the red carpet who, instead of simply looking as though they had been “dressed as” something, could still tell me a story.

I missed the kind of fashion that makes you stop and look.

The kind that doesn’t need to tell you how much it costs, how exclusive it is, or how many people happen to be wearing it at that very moment.

Perhaps I needed to step away from the noise for a while to remember why I fell in love with fashion so many years ago.

It was never about possession.

It has always been about the way we look at things.

Fashion interests me when it tells us something about people, about the time we live in, about who we want to be. It interests me when clothes become a language, when one small detail can completely change the way we perceive someone, when elegance arrives without asking for attention.

And above all, it interests me when it remains personal.

Because there is one thing this time away from my usual rhythm has made me understand even more clearly: I don’t just want to know what we are supposed to wear.

I want to keep asking myself why I like something.

Why some women can be magnetic with so little, while others, surrounded by everything that is supposed to be desirable, leave me feeling absolutely nothing.

Why an old coat can move me more than the latest it bag.

Why we can have access to an endless stream of images and yet, paradoxically, find ourselves surprised less and less.

And perhaps this is exactly where I want Cappuccino Time to begin again.

Less “this is fashionable”. More “look at this, I want to talk about it with you”. Fewer rules. More style.

So yes, my fashion lovers. I did miss fashion.

But more than anything, I missed the pleasure of looking at it with you, over a wonderfully frothy cappuccino.
