Labubu, the viral toy hanging from my Jane Birkin basket

Bonjour fashion lovers,

Who would’ve thought that a tiny, sharp-toothed creature could become my new favorite accessory?

And yet, here he is: Labubu, tenderly rebellious and irresistibly viral, proudly hanging from my Jane Birkin-style wicker basket.

He’s an object that needs no explanation—you either love him or want him. A symbol of kawaii aesthetics with a dark twist, with that mischievous little face that’s conquered It Girls around the world—from Weibo selfies to ironic Instagram stylings.

He’s been talked about everywhere. And yes, I’ve written about it too, in an article where I explored the unexpected viral rise of this quirky little charm. 

And yes, I know: the purists (even among you, my readers) are raising eyebrows. How could someone who uses the word elegance as a middle name give in to such an unconventional object?

The truth? He won me over. With a sideways grin, Labubu dismantled some of my long-held style convictions. He reminded me that fashion is also play, visual disruption, and an affectionate wink to the unexpected.

I don’t call him a toy. I don’t call him a charm.
