The controversial Zara ad campaign

Bonjour fashion lovers.

Zara is in the eye of the storm in recent hours.
the hashtag #boycottzara has gone viral and shows no signs of abating.

Messages of hatred, disgust and anger are invading posts from the Spanish fast fashion giant.
But what happened?

After the release of the ad campaign an in which British model Kristen McMenamy hugs a mannequin wrapped and covered in white fabric, many saw similarities with images showing the aftermath of the conflict in Israel and Palestine, showing insensitivity

Some also pointed out that the advertising campaign showing the plywood boards resembled the map of Palestine.
Supporting this position were exhumed statements made in 2021 Zara's Head designer Vanessa Perilman's to Palestinian model Qaher Harhash on Instagram. "Maybe if your people were educated, then they wouldn't blow up hospitals and schools that Israel helped to pay for in Gaza. Israelis don't teach children to hate nor throw stones at soldiers as your people do,” she said.

The Arab world is in an uproar, calling for a boycott of Zara (as well as other major brands accused of supporting Israeli policy, such as H&M, McDonald's, Starbucks).

The fashion giant has yet to issue any official statement on the matter.
Though with different motivations, the boycott policy involving Balenciaga comes to mind.

What will happen next?
I will keep you updated.
